How the free air check at Discount Tire works
There is no self-serve hose. Pull up to the store or park near the entrance and tell a team member you'd like an air check. A technician checks all four tires, fills them to the pressure on your door sticker and often takes a quick look at the tread. You usually stay in the car, and it takes a few minutes.
Because staff do the work, the air is only available during business hours. Most stores are open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays, so for a Sunday or late-night fix, look for a gas station with free air on the map.
When to go to a tire shop instead of a gas station
A tire shop is the better choice when one tire keeps losing air, when the pressure warning comes back after you filled up, or when you are not sure how much pressure your tires need. The technician can spot a nail or a leaking valve while checking the pressure.
Getting a free air check at Discount Tire
- Check the store hours first. Staff do the filling, so there is no air after closing.
- Pull up near the service bays and ask for a free air or pressure check.
- Stay in the car or wait inside; it usually takes a few minutes.
- Ask them to check the spare too, and to look at any tire that keeps losing air.
Cold weather and your tires
Most Discount Tire locations on our map are in Texas, where the average temperature drops from about 84 °F in July to 47 °F in January (NOAA). Tire pressure falls roughly 1 PSI for every 10 °F, so tires set correctly in summer are about 4 PSI low by midwinter. Check them monthly, and always when the low-pressure light comes on.
