Short answer

Depends on the store

At many stores, but not all. Newer RaceTrac stores in Georgia, Florida and Texas often have free air, while older ones may have a coin-operated machine. RaceWay, the dealer-run sister brand, leaves it to each owner.

RaceTrac vs. RaceWay

RaceTrac, based in Atlanta, runs its own stores, but RaceWay stations are owned by independent dealers who buy fuel from RaceTrac. That is why air policy at RaceWay differs much more from one station to the next.

If the machine wants coins, ask inside. Some stores switch it to free for customers. We are still adding RaceTrac stores to the map; tell us about a free one near you.

How to use the air at RaceTrac

  1. Find your target pressure on the sticker inside the driver's door, not the maximum on the tire.
  2. Park so the hose reaches all four tires and unscrew the valve caps.
  3. If the machine asks for coins, ask the cashier whether they can switch it to free.
  4. Fill in short bursts until the reading matches, then put the caps back on.

Cold weather and your tires

Most RaceTrac locations on our map are in Georgia, where the average temperature drops from about 81 °F in July to 48 °F in January (NOAA). Tire pressure falls roughly 1 PSI for every 10 °F, so tires set correctly in summer are about 3 PSI low by midwinter. Check them monthly, and always when the low-pressure light comes on.
