Does Wawa have free air?

Our map lists 805 Wawa locations with air for tires in 10 states, most of them in Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Short answer

Usually free

Yes, at most stores. Wawa is one of the few big chains where free air is the rule: the machine is free to use without buying anything, and almost every Wawa is open 24 hours. A few older or very small stores have no machine.

Why Wawa is so consistent

Wawa runs its own stores instead of franchising them. The air policy is set by the company, not by hundreds of different owners, so a Wawa in Philadelphia handles air the same way as one in Orlando or Northern Virginia.

The machines usually stand at the edge of the lot, away from the fuel islands. Newer ones are digital: you set the pressure, press the hose onto the valve and the machine stops and beeps when the tire is full. Older ones have a hose with a gauge in the handle, so a pocket gauge helps if you want an exact reading.

If the Wawa air machine is out of order

Busy machines break now and then. Staff inside can often reset a machine that stopped working. If not, the map shows the next Wawa nearby, and in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia a Sheetz or Royal Farms is often just as close.

How to use the air at Wawa

  1. Find your target pressure on the sticker inside the driver's door, not the maximum on the tire.
  2. Park so the hose reaches all four tires and unscrew the valve caps.
  3. On a digital machine, set the PSI first; on a plain hose, check the gauge often.
  4. Fill in short bursts until the reading matches, then put the caps back on.

Cold weather and your tires

Most Wawa locations on our map are in Florida, where the average temperature drops from about 83 °F in July to 59 °F in January (NOAA). Tire pressure falls roughly 1 PSI for every 10 °F, so tires set correctly in summer are about 2 PSI low by midwinter. Check them monthly, and always when the low-pressure light comes on.
